Shindzela Tented Safari Camp
Shindzela (named after the Honey badger in the African Shangaan language) is an authentic tented bush camp made from wood and canvas, set within the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, part of the greater Kruger National Park, South Africa. It is from here that Shindzela brings you an affordable wildlife safari, where you can explore the African wilderness on game drives in open safari vehicles and on foot during bush walks. Safari activities are conducted by professional and knowledgeable safari guides. The camp has an informal, relaxed atmosphere, and is alive with warm African hospitality.
Shindzela offers guests a greater Kruger wildlife safari, in an unfenced wilderness environment. We have no power: instead we use solar power, gas and candles. We are undisturbed by modern conveniences such as television and mobile phones, preferring to immerse ourselves in the African wilderness. The camp accommodates just 16 guests, and has a swimming pool.

In an effort to offer an affordable safari in South Africa, we have deliberately chosen to forego some of the features that add to the costs of running a safari camp;
- we don’t have an African spa… we think that fresh air and the sights and sounds of the bush constitute a spa experience second to none anyway….
- we don’t have a high staff / guest ratio. If you fancy a cold beer, please help yourself and mark it down on our honesty bar tab
- our menu’s don’t feature dishes with culinary terms like “jus”, “compote” or “lightly seared”. Our meals are tasty and homemade, with lots of fresh fruit, veg and salads. Enjoy a traditional South Africa braai with freshly baked safari bread, or a potjie (stew), cooked slowly over the fire. (catering for vegetarian diets is not a problem)
- our camp is not built by an award winning architect, nor is it furnished by an interior designer. What you will find though, is a comfy bed, freshly laundered linen, and decor from local crafters and artists. We love our informal, relaxed atmosphere
